NTT DoCoMo successfully finished the test of using a 5G connection at speeds. The company used a car (Nissan GT-R) as an imitation of a high-speed train (with speed about 150 mph). The achieved progress will be used at the Olympics in 2020 by NTT DoCoMo. Companies NEC и NTT also took part in this test.

Taiwan telecom regulator (National Communications Commission) concerns about a price war between mobile operators. NCC thinks this fact could influence how much operators are willing to invest in new services and networks, including 5G. This was commented after Chunghwa Telecom's decision to introduce low-cost 4G solutions. According to NCC it doesn't develop a telecommunication market. This course would not be positive for the development of 5G in the nation. Following the price drop, Chunghwa's competitors Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone Telecommunications, and Asia Pacific Telecom quickly followed.

Eric Hu, Deputy Chairman of the Board and Rotating Chairman of Huawei said that the company didn't have huge expectations about 5G. According to him 5G will not be used for large coverage. It is far more likely that 5G will be used for specific, more localised deployments. Customers will not see a big difference between 5G and 4G. 5G is a natural result of technology development only. It was said during the Huawei Analyst Summit.

Helsinki University and Nokia Bell Labs started a new project (MegaSense) to monitor air quality in real-time by using 5G technology. There are two pilots now. The first pilot project is at the University of Helsinki's Kumpula Campus. Air quality sensors at the testbed are currently being connected to Nokia's NetLeap/NDAC network. The second pilot project is in Beijing to monitor air quality.
